BROTHERS IN ARMS (2005)

   Billed as a hip-hop Western, Brothers in Arms is a typical postmodern Western. The story involves a gang of African American cowboys planning to hold up a bank and thus extract revenge upon the white owner and his cruel son. The film is not a spoof of classic Western cliches but an effort to reenvision the West for postmodern sensibilities. The contemporary hip-hop music is reminiscent of the streamlined Western swing music in Westerns of the 1930s and 1940s. This film is usually compared with Gang of Roses (2003), also directed by Jean-Claude La Marre.
